About Museums

As of 2026, I have worked in museums for over 48-years and I am very happy to share some of what I have learned or seen. Perhaps these tips and comments will save you from “reinventing the wheel” as you face museum problems. These lessons can be of great use to collectors, because really, collectors and museums are doing the same thing, just that one is personal and the other is usually operated by a group. The two are sometimes one and the same.

Museums do the following basics operations:

  1. COLLECT

  2. PRESERVE

  3. RESEARCH

  4. EXHIBIT

  5. EDUCATE
